BLOG BITE with… Tracey O’Hara

At home I cook… as little as possible, I’m not very domestic. My boys are old enough to take care of themselves.

My day job is… an Analyst Programmer for a government department.

I procrastinate by … watching movies and TV series on DVD. Though it does tend to feed my muse at the same time.

Currently reading… I am Number Four by Pitticus Lore – a 10,000 year old alien apparently. It’s the first YA book I’ve read since Harry Potter.

I write… an Urban Fantasy series called the Dark Brethren. My second book DEATH’S SWEET EMBRACE comes out January 25 2011 in the US and April 1 in Australia.

Anyone leaving a comment (up until 5pm tomorrow – Saturday) will go into the draw to win a copy of Tracey’s new release Death’s Sweet Embrace.

 About Death’s Sweet Embrace

After centuries of secret conflict, humans and parahumans have reached an uneasy truce. But unspeakable evil now threatens the tenuous peace.

Teenaged shapeshifters are being slaughtered by a sadistic serial killer who rips their still-beating hearts from their paralyzed bodies. A task force forms to halt the madness, including the vampiric Aeternus Antoinette Petrescu, as well as Kitt Jordan and Raven Matokwe, members of enemy Animalian tribes . . . and forbidden lovers.

A centuries-old blood feud has divided their shapeshifting peoples, and if their passion is discovered it will doom them both. But past hostilities must be put aside, for the killer they seek is but the first sign of the all-consuming nightmare of The Dark Brethren.

I’m with you on cooking. What’s wrong with toast for dinner…

  3. I sooo love this cover, Tracey! Do I really have to wait till 25th Jan? *whimpers*

Hey, would your boys like to pop on over the ditch and teach my two to cook for themselves? I’ve tried. God knows, I’ve tried. But unless I’m supervising them cooking something — yanno, for their own good, so they won’t starve when they go flatting — my kids will “cook” themselves a toasted sandwich, or a bowl of cereal or microwaved porridge, and call it dinner.

    • Maree – it’s all a matter of survival. They don’t cook – they don’t eat. That simple. 🙂 Though no. 1 son does most – no. 2 son is just starting to learn.

  5. Morning ladies!
Nice interview. Tracey, I totally understand your procrastination/muse DVD watching. I bought the first season of Vampire Diaries last week and have been watching eps back to back when I should be writing… telling myself its ‘inspiration’ LOL
Don’t put me in the draw, I think I already won a copy of this somewhere else along the way
    🙂

    • Jess you do have a copy coming. 🙂 And yes – I do the marathon back to back thing. Thought at the moment it was an episode of Star Trek Next Gen with my husband after he finished work. That could be a 2am. Though we just finished the series which is okay becasue I am writing.

  6. Hi Tracey,
I agree with all of the above. The cover is incredible. And I’m sure what’s between the covers is equally brilliant.

BTW, it’s interesting that you’re reading I am number four, which is being promoted as the next YA sensation after the Twilight series. News gets around. My 14-year-old daughter, who’s reading it, read up on the clever co-authors. Fascinating stuff.

    • Shayne – it is an awesome cover. Artist isLarry Rostant.

I am Number Four is from the James Frey writer’s sweat shop. Not sure I approve or disapprove. There are conflicting reports. But I am enjoying the book when I get time to read. 🙂

  7. Hey Tracey!
I am still waiting for that book (I am number Four) to arrive (grrr), but it looks fantastic!
I know what you mean about procrastinating with movies. Watched the last few DVD’s last night of True Blood (season 2) when I should have been writing. LOL!!
Soo looking forward to your book number 2 – and 3!!!

For me procrastiniation = reading. And has done my whole life. My TV shows/Movies are what I have on to cope with the folding, or any other mundane household task that really can’t be avoided (and trust me, I avoid as many as I can *wink*).

    Good luck with your release!

    • Anita – the problem with me is that if I sit down with a good book – I don’t want to stop. At the moment I can spare an hour here and there – just not enough time for me to get into it. Working full time, writing and promo just eat up what little I have. And I can’t share reading with my husband – a movie I can. 🙂

By the say I so relate to the cooking aspect of your day. I’m really over mine.

    • Suz – I don’t mind making something nice every now and then – it’s the day to day cooking I find tedious. Thanks for coming 🙂

  10. I’m excited about the release of ‘Death’s Sweet Embrace’!

It is so inspirational to see that it is possible to write great stories and get them published while working at other life things as well.

I too feed the muse with tv & movies. Very healthy diet (with music on the side).

I’m evolving to letting go of cooking duty. I enjoy doing it & I know it can also be a way to delay getting to my desk.

Looking forward to DSE & still adore that cover 🙂

  12. Tracey, people who cook up great books should be excused cooking duties, especially those who get four and a half star Top Picks from RT Book Reviews. Your book cover looked great on the review page too. Congratulations.
