The Ink-Stained Groupies present the Pitch and Proposal Workshop

Thanks to RWA’s Group Grants scheme, this June, the Toowong-based writers’ group, the Ink-Stained Groupies is holding a Pitch and Proposal Workshop with writer, publisher and speaker, Sally Collings.

Through the scheme, the group applied for and received a partial grant which has enabled us to organise a workshop with Sally.  Sally will show us how to put together a book proposal, including cover letter and synopsis, and a pitch that will catch a publisher’s attention.

We still have a few places available, and would like to issue an invitation to other interested writers to participate.

Workshop Details:

Date: Thursday, 14 June 2012

Time: 10am  – 1pm followed by optional lunch

Cost: Approximately $20 (less if we get more participants – maximum 12 participants)

Venue: Toowong Library, Toowong Village Shopping Centre, 9 Sherwood Road, Toowong, West Brisbane.

The Topic: The workshop will equip participants with the tools and confidence to begin marketing their manuscripts effectively.  A hands-on approach and feedback will hone participants skills.

Target:  Writers who have one or more completed novels sitting on computers, but who are having difficulty coming to grips with the next step toward publication.

The Facilitator:  Writer, publisher and speaker Sally Collings has worked in book publishing for more than 20 years, building unparalleled expertise and a sparkling reputation. As an author, Sally’s books include the bestselling Sophie’s Journey; Positive; The World According to Kids; and Parenting With Soul. Sally is former associate publisher (non-fiction) with HarperCollins Publishers Australia and editorial director for Amber Books in the UK. She is co-founder of Red Hill Publishing, a book packager and publishing consultancy.

Would be there in a heartbeat … This workshop sounds very very good. Wished I lived in the area.
