RWA Facebook Group Changes
Did you know that RWA has an official Facebook Page? The link is below. When the ‘page’ was set up, we couldn’t easily allow conversation on that page, which is why we set up a group as well.
The ‘anyone can post to the page’ function is now turned on, and thanks to the magic of Facebook linking, there are already posts there. The official news posts appear on the left and all the posts by ‘likers’ in the box on the right. The advantage of this is that you can see the latest official news and a bunch of posts from others at a glance, without having to scroll down. And if you want to see full posts you can click ‘see all’ on the box, and you get a nice, dedicated stream, without the ads down the side.
In the lead-up to the 2014 conference, we have a lot more official news posts on Facebook and by using the official page only, we can put all of those up clearly without drowning out the other conversations.
The format of the ‘like’ page, allows official posts (promotion of blog appearances and contest winners, for instance) to stay visible for longer. The official page can also ‘like’ the FB pages of RWA writer’s groups and members, which the group can’t. It can also host collections of photos that are posted to it, which the group can’t and seems relevant to promotion, as most of the photos posted to the group are book covers. As part of our new structure, we are actively looking for ways to better support our ‘established’ writers and improving the prominence of our official page will improve our ability to promote our publishing members on Facebook, both to readers on Facebook and to outside media.
The upshot of all of these considerations is that we would like to consolidate our two pages into one official RWA Facebook page. You could start by heading over to the RWA page (below) and ‘liking’ it, we would greatly appreciate it.
