Ruby Finalists Announced

Drumroll please!  We are delighted to announce the finalists for the reader-judged RWA Romantic Book of the Year contest, better known as the Ruby.

What the Bride Didn’t Know Kelly Hunter
One Secret Night Yvonne Lindsay
Never Say No to a Caffarelli Melanie Milburne
A Price Worth Paying Trish Morey

In the ‘Short Sweet‘ division (again, referring to the stories, although the sweet part is, I’m sure, perfectly true of the authors as well) the finalists, in alphabetical order by author, are:

One Life Changing Moment Lucy Clark
Gold Coast Angels: Bundle of Trouble Fiona Lowe
A Father at Last Julie Mac
Secrets of a Career Girl Carol Marinelli

The ‘Stories with Romantic Elements’ finalists are:

Under the Hood Juanita Kees
Nobody But Him Victoria Purman

Lost in Kakadu Kendall Talbot

Finally, in the ‘Long Romance’ section of the competition, tied entries resulted in six title and five author finalists.  They are:

Holding Out for a Hero Amy Andrews
A Prior Engagement Karina Bliss
Letter from a Rake Sasha Cottman
The Dissolute Duke Sophia James
Mistress at Midnight Sophia James
Her Favourite Rival Sarah Mayberry

Our thanks, as always to all the volunteers who help to make the Ruby possible, especially Annie Lynch, contest co-ordinator for this year’s Ruby and all the reader judges and judge co-ordinators.

It’s wonderful to see a mix of new and established authors in this list and for the blog team, it’s especially exciting to see our own blog editor and Cruisin’ and Events columnist, Juanita Kees, among the finalists!

Congratulations to all of our finalists and best of luck with the final round of judging!

The winners of the Ruby are announced at the awards dinner at our conference in August and will be on this blog on Sunday the 10th of August 2014.

It’s that time of year again! Time to announce the finalists in RWA’s Romantic Book of the Year (Ruby) competition for published novels.  We have four sections, each with four finalists and the winners will be announced at our annual conference, this year to be held in Fremantle, WA.

This year’s batch is a wonderful microcosm of our membership, including some of our most established and loved author members and some who have entered the finalist list with their first book.  Obviously, if you are a romance writer, RWA is the place to be!

So, without further ado, congratulations and best of luck to:

Christina PhillipsFORBIDDEN Berkley Heat

He was a master of seduction – but no match for the magical allure of the woman he wanted most…

Carys knew from the moment she first spied on Maximus in his naked barbarian glory that he was a dangerous Roman centurion – his taut, battle-scarred flesh marking him as a fearless warrior. But her desire for him was as undeniable as it was illicit.

Charged by his emperor to eliminate a clan of powerful Druids in Britain, Maximus never expects his mission to be thwarted by the clan’s ethereal princess, Carys, his daring voyeur. Falling under her spell, he doesn’t realize her true heritage – until he captures her heart as well as her body.

Lilian DarcyTHE HEIRESS’S BABY HM&B Special Moments

It should have been Nate Ridgeway’s promotion. Instead his hotelier boss had given the job to his pampered, flighty daughter, Atlanta Sheridan, and now Nate had to “babysit” her in her new role!

Although Atlanta Sheridan looked every inch the society heiress, Nate soon discovered it was just a front. Poised perfection masked the warm, intelligent, funny person beneath. Nate didn’t want to like her, let alone find her attractive. For a man famous for always doing the right thing, sleeping with the boss’s daughter seemed so wrong! And then the bombshell that he suspected could ruin his career, the heiress was now expecting his baby!

Maggie NashTHE DREAM MASTER Total-e-bound

Police detective Helena Peters has been secretly in love with her partner for years. It doesn’t help that he never looks on her as anything other than his work partner. What would she do if he discovered what she was really thinking?

His classic Greek looks were responsible for Dimitri Michaels arrogant success with women, so going under cover and pretending to be lovers with his long time work partner should have been a piece of cake. It might have been, except good ole ‘Hels’, his partner and buddy, was not the same person he remembered.  Why was the only girl in his dreams now the one who’s been right under his nose for years? More to the point, could he keep her safe long enough to convince her what he felt for her wasn’t an act?

Tessa RadleyFALLING FOR HIS PROPER MISTRESS HM&B Desire

It had been forty-nine days — and nights — since Guy Jarrod last touched Avery Lancaster. Yes, the successful businessman had believed the rumours of her gold-digging ways. But she was an itch he needed to scratch. And being forced to work with her during Aspen’s Food and Wine Gala meant she was right within his reach. Once he finally had his fill, he would send her on her way…out of his life for good.

But what if the rumours were false? Had he made a mistress out of the woman who should have been his wife?

Trish MoreyHIS PRISONER IN PARADISE HM&B Sexy

Merciless Daniel Caruana will do anything to prevent his sister marrying his nemesis! It just so happens that her wedding planner is the groom’s sister — and in the flesh, despite her prim clothes, Miss Sophie Turner is very tempting.

An eye for an eye, a sister for a sister…

Daniel will have Sophie exactly where he wants her — trapped on his private island and willing in his bed! But when Daniel realises that true love does exist, it’s not just his sister who is in trouble…

Yvonne Lindsay – HONOUR-BOUND GROOM HM&B Desire

Mr September: Alexander del Castillo, CEO and eldest son.

Betrothed from childhood, Alexander’s future held a wife not of his own choosing. Thankfully bride-to-be Loren Dubois was more than suited for her place at his side — and in his bed. But the businessman never expected his beautiful bride to get under his skin…or into his heart.

Honour. Truth. Love. Unless this del Castillo brother learns to live by the family motto to Wed At Any Price, his generation will be the last.

Hope you all have a wonderful September.
