Conference Spotlight ~ Author Café

Welcome to another of our Conference Spotlights from the DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER conference.

Today Nicole Murphy talks to us about the Author Café.

At this year’s conference, we’re trialling an event we’re calling Author Café. It will give a small group of conference attendees the chance to sit with an author and chat for half an hour, picking their brain and sharing the wisdom.

The Author Café will take place during the breaks on SUNDAY AUGUST 19. We’ve got 28 authors giving up one of the breaks that day to spend some quality time with just five attendees. Think of it as a small, short, intensive session with a star. Tables will be set up especially for you in an area of the conference venue.

We’re pretty confident you’ll identify at least one author who you feel is going to be able to share a lot of valuable information to help you on your career.

We’re anticipating that a lot of attendees are going to want to take part, and we want to share the experience with as many as possible so here’s how we’re going to choose who gets to see which author: attendees will nominate three authors they wish to chat with.

Nominations must be sent to Author Café organiser Nicole Murphy by August 4.

A random draw will take place to find the five attendees that will sit with each author. Once you’ve been drawn to be in an Author Café, your other nominations will be taken out so you will only be given a place with one author.

Attendees will be notified if they’ve been successful and who their author is on August 10.

If that fills all the places for all the authors, that will be the end. If, however, some authors still have places available, they will be offered to any attendees who nominated but did not get a place with any of their chosen authors. This offer will be made on August 10.

If places are still not filled after this offer, they will be available on a first come/first served basis on the day. If this is the case, there will be an announcement on the blog on August 14.

We will allow people who already have an Author Café to put their name down for multiples at this point.

Choose three authors you really want the opportunity to sit and chat with and email your selection to nicole@nicolermurphy.com Then cross fingers, toes and anything else you wish and hope that you’ll be notified of a successful draw on August 10. Then get ready to ask questions, partake in discussions and learn.
